Ramesh Daggubati, MD, FSCAI, FACC - Program Chair

Dr. Ramesh Daggubati serves as the Associate Chief of Cardiology and Director of Structural Heart Disease at West Virginia University School of Medicine. Prior to joining WVU he was the Associate Chief of Cardiology at NYU Winthrop Hospital, interim Chief of Cardiology and Clinical Professor at Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University.

Dr. Daggubati is board certified in Interventional Cardiology, Cardiovascular Medicine and Internal Medicine. He is skilled in all aspects of interventional cardiology including atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale closure, percutaneous aortic and mitral valve replacement or repair, percutaneous ventricular assist devices such as Impella, Tandem Heart, ECMO, pulmonary embolectomy, peripheral and complex coronary interventions. He performs transradial interventions and has proctored many physicians across the country and world. He has developed algorithms for management of cardiogenic shock that is used at multiple institutions around the country.

He earned his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College in India at a very young age of 21. His post-graduate training continued in Internal Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, India, senior residency in Neurology at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, India, research fellowship in Echocardiography at Loma Linda University VA medical center, Jamaica Hospital Medical Center as an Internal Medicine Resident, Winthrop University Hospital as a Cardiology Fellow, and Yale University-Bridgeport Hospital as an Interventional Cardiology Fellow.

Dr. Daggubati serves as a Trustee for The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI). He also is the Chair, International Committee for SCAI.

George Dangas, MD, PhD, MSCAI

Dr. George Dangas is Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) & Surgery (Vascular) at Icahn School of Medicine & the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and Director, Cardiovascular Innovation at Mount Sinai Hospital, NYC. He is TCT Director; text book editor of Interventional Cardiology Principle & Practice (Wiley London); Associate Editor of JACC; Secretary, Executive Committee, SCAI; Professor of Cardiology National Kapodistrian University of Athens and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna.

After Medical/Doctorate studies at National Kapodistrian University of Athens & Medical Officer, Hellenic Navy he trained in Medicine at Brown University, and Cardiology/Interventional at Mount Sinai. Among the founding faculty of Cardiovascular Research Foundation NYC, he held faculty positions at Lenox Hill Hospital & Columbia University Medical Center; he led the founding of Interventional Fellowship Programs in both.

He served as Trustee of ACC & SCAI, Fellow of ESC & AHA, founder/chair of ACC Interventional Council/Section & Cardiology Chair at Onassis Heart Center, Athens Greece.

He is Master Interventionalist (SCAI), ACC Distinguished Fellow 2019, ACC Distinguished Teacher 2017, and in numerous Top/Super Doctors in WHO listings. Dr. Dangas is the SCAI Incoming President for 2023-2024.

Samin K. Sharma, MD, MSCAI, FACC

Samin K. Sharma is an American philanthropist of Indian descent and an interventional cardiologist who co-founded the Eternal Heart Care Centre and Research Institute in Jaipur (EHCC). He is on New York State’s Cardiac Advisory Board since 2004. As of 2021, he is Senior Vice-President, Operations & Quality at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and runs the Dr. Samin K. Sharma Family Foundation Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. As of 2018, he is Chairman Board of Trustees, Association of Indians in America (AIA). As of 2022, he has been an investigator on 86 grants and multi-center trials and authored 486 peer-reviewed articles that have been cited 21,734 times.

Dr. Sharma received his bachelor of science degree from University Maharaja College then his MBBS degree from SMS Medical Department of Pharmacy, Jaipur in 1978.He completed his residency in internal medicine at the NY Infirmary-Beekman Downtown Hospital (1983-1986), a two-year fellowship in cardiology at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens (1986-1988). He trained with Mount Sinai's chief of cardiology, Dr. Valentín Fuster. He was concurrently an emergency department physician in Queens and was later hired to Mount Sinai's cardiology department. He is the director of the Mount Sinai Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

Dr. Sharma specializes in the non-surgical treatment of mitral and aortic stenosis. He reportedly performed 3,722 angioplasties over three years (2005-2007) according to a study by the New York State Department of Health. He also performs rotational atherectomy, an alternative to angioplasty for complex, calcified coronary lesions. He has published extensively on the procedure and he is a principal investigator (PI) on scores of clinical trials and research grants analyzing and contrasting forms of interventional cardiology. In 2009, he performed a coronary angiography and angioplasty procedure on Indian Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh Desai.

Imad Sheiban, MD, FSCAI

Dr.Imad Sheiban is Associate Professor of Cardiology at the University of Torino. Dr. Sheiban is a Member of Society Angiography and Cardiac Interventions, Italian Society Cardiology, European Society Cardiology, Italian Society Interventional Cardiology., American Heart Association. He completed his medical school and post-graduation studies from University of Padua. He performed approximately 12,000 procedures of Interventional Cardiology including PTCAs , directional and rotational atherectomies, coronary stenting, IVUS, intracoronary pressure wire and flow wire studies both in elective and emergency settings, approximately 400 peripheral angioplasty procedures including extra-cranial carotid artery angioplasty, approximately 80 procedures of TAVI , 200 PFO closure and 10 LAA closure.

Dr Sheiban belongs to a number of national and international scientific societies, and , from 1993 to 1995 he was also a member of the Executive Board of the Italian Group of Hemodynamic Studies and Interventional Cardiology (GISE).

His research activity includes coronary stenting, restenosis, LV function in acute and chronic ischemia and acute coronary syndromes, restenosis, Left main angioplasty , Drug Eluting stent – including animal studies- ,dedicated bifurcation stenting , complex coronary interventions , TAVI and he actively participating to several international multicenter trials in Interventional Cardiology He is also owner of international patents on stent delivery system and stents for bifurcation lesions.

Roxana Mehran, MD, MSCAI, FACC, FACP, FCCP, FESC, FAHA

Dr. Roxana Mehran earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from New York University in 1983. She earned her M.D. from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies in 1987. From 1988 until 1991, Mehran completed her residency training in the internal medicine program at University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Hartford, CT, where she served as chief resident. She completed cardiology (1991 to 1994) and interventional cardiology (1994 until 1995) fellowships at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Roxana Mehran held appointments at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Washington Hospital Center before moving to Mount Sinai School of Medicine. As of 2021, she is a Professor of Medicine, Cardiology, and Population Health Science and Policy at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, a position she has held since 2010. In 2019, she was honored as the Mount Sinai Professor in Cardiovascular Clinical Research and Outcomes.

Dr. Roxana Mehran advocates for women in medicine with a focus on her field of cardiology, including a study in The Lancet that showed a lack of gender-specific research related to women's heart health. She co-founded Women as One, an organization dedicated to the advancement of women physicians, and in 2020, she was named lead commissioner for The Lancet's Commission on Women and Cardiovascular Disease. She was a founding physician of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation, New York City, in 2000.

Ahmed Magdy, MD, PhD, MSCAI

Dr. Ahmed Magdy has been the SCAI International Ambassador representing Egypt since 2019. He currently serves as a consultant cardiologist for the National Heart Institute, Cairo, and received his doctorate in cardiovascular disease from Cairo University. He is Program Director of Egyptian Fellowship Board of Cardiology& Intervention Cardiology, national representative of ACCA (Acute Cardiovascular Care Association) and national champion of the European Society of Cardiology.

Raghavendra Mirmira MD, PhD

Dr. Raghavendra Mirmira is Professor of Medicine in the Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism. He is a graduate of The University of Chicago and then entered MD, PhD (MSTP) program where he worked under the mentorship of Dr. Howard Tager studying insulin-receptor interactions. He received his PhD degree in 1991, followed by his MD degree in 1993. Dr. Mirmira subsequently completed his residency in internal medicine and subspecialty training in diabetes and endocrinology at the University of California at San Francisco. During his subspecialty training he received the prestigious Physician Postdoctoral Fellowship Award from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He also received the prestigious Thomas R. Lee Career Development Award from the American Diabetes Association.

He is international leader in type 1 diabetes research—specifically the biology of islet cells. His research is focused on the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and the biology of the islet. He has published over 130 scientific papers in prestigious journals. He is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.

Om P. Ganda, MD

Dr. Om P. Ganda is Senior Physician and Director of the Lipid Clinic at Joslin Diabetes Center, and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ganda received his M.B.B.S. from the University of Rajasthan in India. He completed his Residency at the All India Institute of Medical Science (MD- Medicine) and Tufts University School of Medicine.

Dr. Ganda completed his clinical fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at Boston VA Hospital and a research fellowship at Joslin and Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Ganda is now Co-Investigator of Epidemiology of Diabetes Intervention and Complications, an ongoing long-term follow-up study to the DCCT. Dr. Ganda has authored more than 120 publications. He is a co-investigator of several ongoing clinical trials to identify better medications for people who have difficulty with exercise and diet control.

Matthias Hebrok, Phd

Dr. Matthias Hebrok is the Hurlbut-Johnson Distinguished Professor in Diabetes Research at the University of California, San Francisco. From Sep 1, 2022 he is going to join Technical University, Munich as a Professor, Chair for Applied Stem Cell and Organoid Systems and as a Director of Institute for Diabetes and Organoid Technology at Helmholtz Center.

He received his Diploma degree in Cell Biology from the Albert-Ludwigs University, performed his PhD thesis at the Max-Planck-Institute, and conducted his postdoctoral research at HHMI at Harvard University.

He is the recipient of several honors and awards, including the JDRF Scholar Award and the Gerold & Kayla Grodsky Award honoring outstanding scientific contributions to diabetes research. Dr. Hebrok has served as the Chair of the NIH Cellular Aspects of Diabetes and Obesity (CADO) study section and was a Member of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Diabetes Mellitus Interagency Coordinating Committee (DMICC). He currently is a Member of the Research Advisory Committee for the JDRF. His research work focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying pancreas development and disease, including diabetes and pancreatic cancer and published in renowned journals.

Angela M. Leung, MD

Dr. Angela M. Leung is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and an endocrinologist at both UCLA and the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.

After pursuing her undergraduate studies at Occidental College, Dr. Leung completed her internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship training at Boston University School of Medicine. She also studied at the Boston University School of Public Health and obtained a master's degree in Epidemiology.

Dr. Leung has particular clinical and research interests in thyroid disorders, and she also sees patients regarding parathyroid and adrenal disorders. She has published widely and lectures frequently on thyroid disease, including hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, and thyroid disease during pregnancy.

Ann E. Kearns, MD, PhD

Ann E. Kearns, M.D., Ph.D. is an endocrinologist specializing in metabolic bone and calcium disorders.

Her clinical focus includes: Osteoporosis and secondary fracture prevention, Primary hyperparathyroidism Other disorders of calcium and mineral metabolism

Her research interests are the relationship between osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease and the potential role of estrogen in the development of both diseases. She is involved in the KEEPS trial, which is an trial of hormone replacement early after the menopause and examines surrogate cardiovascular markers including coronary artery calcification, carotid intimal thickness, and vascular reactivity, in women randomized to placebo, oral, or transdermal therapies. Her study examines detailed bone density and biochemical markers of bone turnover in these women, with the goal of determining how CV disease and bone loss are affected by estrogen versus aging.

In addition Dr. Kearns is interested in the optimal evaluation and treatment of patients following a hip fracture. This project involves Olmsted county population data to determine the risks for a second hip fracture and help identify who best benefits from treatment after a hip fracture.

Richard S. Legro, MD, FACOG

Richard S. Legro is Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Public Health Sciences at Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA, USA. His research and clinical practice are primarily focused on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)-diagnosis, treatment, and genetic/environmental causes as well as on improving infertility diagnosis and treatment. He has led multiple multi-center trials, has been the principal investigator on a number of National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants and published over 200 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals and multiple books in the field of reproductive endocrinology. He is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine and the Secretary-Treasurer Elect of the Endocrine Society. Shalender Bhasin, MB, BS

Dr. Bhasin is an internationally recognized reproductive endocrinologist with expertise in function promoting anabolic therapies, androgen biology and clinical trials of testosterone. After obtaining his medical education at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India, Dr. Bhasin received his residency training at Northwestern University Medical School and fellowship training in Endocrinology and Nutrition at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California

He is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Research Program in Men's Health: Aging and Metabolism and of the Boston Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He has been in practice for more than 20 years. He currently serves as the Chair of the Endocrine Society's Clinical Guidelines Subcommittee and chaired the Endocrine Society's Expert Panel for the development of Guidelines for Testosterone Therapy.

Benjamin Leder, MD

Dr. Leder received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Endocrine Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he has remained ever since. His current position is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Leder has been both an active clinician (serving as the Director of Endocrine Associates, a 16-physician practice focusing on metabolic bone disease) and clinical investigator. His NIH-funded research focuses on developing novel therapeutic approaches to the management of postmenopausal osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases

O'Gara, MD, MACC, FAHA, FESC, is the Watkins Family Distinguished Chair in Cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. O'Gara served as President of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in 2014-15. He is the Co-Director of the ACC Board Review Course and Editor-in-Chief of the ACC Collaborative Maintenance Programs (CMPs), spanning general cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure and adult congenital heart disease. He currently chairs the AHA/ACC Joint Committee on Clinical Practice Guidelines. O’Gara served as Chair of the American Heart Association's (AHA's) Council on Clinical Cardiology in 2003-2005 and is a current member of the Scientific Advisory and Coordinating Committee (SACC). Eric R. Bates, MD

Dr Eric Bates is professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan.  Dr Bates graduated from Princeton University and the University of Michigan Medical School.  He trained in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Michigan Hospitals. His major clinical interests include acute myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndromes, and coronary artery disease.  His research efforts have focused on fibrinolytic and catheter-based reperfusion therapy for acute myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock, antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy for coronary thrombosis, and coronary artery revascularization.

Clyde Yancy MD, MSc

Dr. Clyde W. Yancy is Vice Dean of Diversity and Inclusion, Professor of Medicine and Chief of Cardiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. He concomitantly serves as associate director of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He holds the Magerstadt Endowed Professor Chair and holds a concomitant appointment as professor in the Department of Medical Social Sciences.
Yancy is a native of Louisiana, where he earned his bachelor’s degree at Southern University in Baton Rouge and medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He served an internship and residency in internal medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. Yancy completed his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he received research training in the human physiology laboratories of Drs. Gunnar Blomqvist and Jere Mitchell, as well as advanced heart failure and heart transplant training from Dr. Maria-Teresa Olivari. He received his initial faculty appointment in 1989 and held a position on the faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, for 17 years. While at UT Southwestern he held the Carl Westcott Distinguished Chair in Medical Research, was associate dean for clinical affairs and served as medical director of the Heart Failure/Heart Transplant Program. In 2006, Yancy was named director of the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute, Dallas. In 2010, he completed a master’s degree in medical management at The University of Texas at Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management.
Yancy’s research interests are heart failure, clinical guideline generation, outcomes sciences, personalized medicine and health care disparities. He is extensively published, with more than 650 peer-reviewed publications, an h-index > 100 and annual recognition as one of the most highly cited scientific authors worldwide. Yancy is deputy editor of JAMA Cardiology and senior section editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC): Heart Failure. He also serves on the editorial boards for Circulation, Circulation: Heart Failure, the American Heart Journal and JACC: Heart Failure. Board certified in internal medicine, with a subspecialty in cardiovascular disease, Yancy holds the designations of Master of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), Master of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American Heart Association (AHA), Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Fellow of the Heart Failure Society of America, and Honorary Fellow of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology. He has served on innumerable clinical practice guidelines and consensus statements writing committees and as chair of the ACC/AHA Heart Failure Clinical Practice Guideline Writing Committee, 2011 - 2020. He is immediate past co-chair of the ACC Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce and former president of the AHA, (2009 – 2010). Yancy is the recipient of two AHA Gold Heart Awards, (2014 & 2022), the AHA James Herrick Award for distinguished achievement in clinical cardiovascular medicine and the AHA Chairman’s Award. He has completed extensive government service for the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.
Yancy is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and the American Association of Physicians. In 2018, he was appointed to the Minority Health Affairs Subcommittee, Department of Health and Human Services. That same year, he received two lifetime achievement awards: one for clinical research from WomenHeart® and one for research and leadership in diversity from the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. In 2019, he received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from his alma mater, Tulane University School of Medicine. In 2021, he received the Northwestern Medicine Mihai Gheorghiade Award for Mentorship and the Gary Mecklenburg Distinguished Physician Award for exemplary professionalism and humanism. In 2022, he received the “Heart of Gold” award at the 2022 AHA Heart Ball in Chicago.

James E. Udelson, MD

Dr. James Udelson is Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Tufts Medical Center. He is a Professor of Medicine and Radiology at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, and in 2012 received the Distinguished Faculty Award from the Medical School.

He was an Associate Editor for Circulation from 2004 - 2016. In 2008, he was selected as the initial Editor-in-Chief for the AHA’s then new journal Circulation: Heart Failure. Nosheen Reza, MD

Nosheen Reza, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where she cares for patients in the Penn Center for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease and in the Section of Advanced Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support. Susan S. Kim, MD

Hugh Calkins, MD

Dr Hugh Calkins is the Catherine Ellen Poindexter Professor of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr Calkins has published more than 700 manuscripts and more than 60 book chapters. He is recognized nationally and internationally for the pioneering role he has played in the development of radiofrequency catheter ablation for treatment of cardiac arrhythmias as well as for his research on arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia. Dr Calkins received 1st prize in the NASPE Young Investigator Competition in 1988, was recipient of the Helen B. Taussig Award of the Maryland American Heart Association Affiliate in 1999, and was awarded the Van Ruyven Medal of the Heart Lung Foundation Utrecht, the Netherlands in 2012. Dr Calkins has been recognized for his clinical excellence by Best Doctors in America, America’s Top Physicians, and Baltimore Magazine. Ron Blankstein, MD, FACC, FASNC, MSCCT, FASPC

Ron Blankstein, MD, FACC, MSCCT, FASNC, FASPC is the Associate Director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Program, Director of Cardiac Computed Tomography, Co-Director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Training Program, and a Senior Physician in Preventive Cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Blankstein has authored over 500 articles and text-book chapters, including several national guidelines. His research has focused on how to use the results of cardiovascular imaging tests in improving patient outcomes. He is frequently invited to talk, both nationally and internationally on topics related to preventive cardiology, imaging coronary atherosclerosis, and cardiac sarcoidosis.
Dr. Blankstein is a past-president of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Preventive Cardiology. He is the chair-elect of the ACC Imaging Section Leadership Council, and is a past member of the ACC Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease Leadership Council. He is also a member of the ACC Nutrition & Lifestyle Work Group. He has previously served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the Council for the Certification of Cardiovascular Imaging. Thomas Stephen Metkus, MD

Dr. Metkus is an assistant professor of medicine and surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Divisions of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery.
